News: Privacy vs Features: How the Camera-Free Even G2 Smart Glasses Aim to Displace Meta

Shenzhen-based wearable tech startup Even Realities has officially crossed into unicorn status after securing $150 million in a pre-Series B funding round led by prominent investors including Meituan and Tencent.

Pushing the company’s market valuation above $1 billion, the fresh capital injection will expand production for its flagship Even G2 smart glasses—a device taking a radically different approach to wearable technology by eliminating onboard cameras entirely.

While tech giant Meta currently controls roughly 70 percent of the global smart glasses market with its camera-equipped Ray-Ban lineup, Even Realities is betting on growing consumer concerns surrounding public recording, surveillance, and data privacy.

Founded by former Apple engineers and luxury eyewear designers, Even Realities offers a lightweight, camera-free aluminum frame equipped with a monochrome heads-up display (HUD) thatProjects live notifications, navigation, and real-time translation directly into the wearer's field of view.

At $599, the Even G2 commands a price premium over Meta’s base Ray-Ban models.

However, as privacy regulators intensify scrutiny on AI-powered camera wearables, Even Realities aims to capture a lucrative niche of privacy-conscious executives and working professionals seeking hands-free productivity without intrusive photography hardware.

"Instead of acting as a wearable camera, the G2 focuses on displaying useful information directly in front of the user, eliminating the need to repeatedly check a phone."
