Google has officially expanded the capabilities of its Gemini artificial intelligence assistant by launching Personal Intelligence for Android Auto and vehicles featuring Google built-in, offering drivers hands-free, context-aware assistance.
The global rollout integrates Gemini securely with personal Google services—including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Search—with explicit user consent. Rather than providing generic internet responses, the system can cross-reference multiple personal data sources to execute complex tasks while driving.
For example, drivers heading to an airport can ask Gemini to pull up flight gate details and live flight status directly from booking confirmation emails without manually scanning through inboxes.
Google emphasized that Personal Intelligence functions as an opt-in feature, allowing users to select accessible services or disable connectivity via Gemini settings at any time. For vehicles with Google built-in, personalized responses are active only when the user's phone is connected inside the cabin.
The initial rollout applies to eligible personal Google accounts for users aged 18 and older, excluding Workspace business accounts as well as users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.
"Personal Intelligence is designed around two primary capabilities: retrieving specific information from connected sources and reasoning across multiple sources to answer complex requests." — Google Product Announcement
