Google has rolled out a major update to its "Ask Maps" feature inside Google Maps, introducing advanced agent-based AI capabilities that allow users to complete complex, multi-step real-world tasks.
The upgraded AI agent enables users to order food directly through natural language requests, automatically identifying nearby open restaurants, accounting for dietary restrictions, and adding selected dishes straight into a checkout cart.
The food ordering feature is currently rolling out with launch partners Square and Toast, with integration for Uber Eats planned for the near future.

Beyond food delivery, Ask Maps now features deep personal context integration through "Personal Intelligence."
Users can connect Ask Maps to Gmail—and eventually other Google Workspace apps like Google Calendar—allowing the AI agent to automatically tailor hotel and local event recommendations based on upcoming flight details or dinner reservations without requiring manual input.
Ask Maps also retains conversation history to recall suggested activities for upcoming trips.
Additionally, Google has introduced a real-time transit widget within Ask Maps that provides live updates regarding bus, train, and metro delays.
Users can also contribute local updates directly within Ask Maps conversations or via the Contribute tab by submitting photos of new business signs or updated store hours.
While real-time transit alerts, personalized contextual responses, and conversation memory are launching globally where Ask Maps is active, food ordering and hotel event search features are initially available in the United States, with a wider international rollout planned over time.
